About Ikat – A Traditional Weaving Technique

According to traditional Thai ethnic knowledge, Ikat (locally known as “cat my”) refers to a unique pattern-making technique. Unlike conventional weaving methods, Ikat does not rely on standard loom patterning. Instead, patterns are created separately by arranging and dyeing threads in advance, then woven into the fabric to achieve distinctive blurred, flowing motifs.

Ikat is a traditional decorative style historically used in ceremonial garments such as skirts worn during festivals, celebrations, and weddings.

Today, Ikat patterns are widely applied to textiles for clothing, home décor, and silk shawls – bringing traditional artistry into modern life.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Dry Cleaning (Recommended):

The best way to preserve silk is to have it dry-cleaned.

Hand Washing:

Wash by hand in cold water. Use only mild shampoo or body wash. Do not use detergent, soap, or bleach.
Do not rub vigorously or wring. Gently squeeze out water by pressing softly.
For stains: clean only the affected area with shampoo/body wash and rub gently until the stain is removed.

Drying, Ironing & Storage:

Air dry in a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight, which may cause fading.
Iron on the reverse side at the “silk” setting.
Store in a dedicated compartment or drawer to best preserve the product.

SPECIFIC NOTES

For Silk Scarves:

Minimize washing; instead, air the scarf in a cool place after use.
When drying, stretch the scarf gently to reduce wrinkles.

For Silk Ties:

Untie the knot immediately after use to help the tie return to its original shape.
